Each athlete should have:
- Sports bag with extra clothes, possibly extra shoes, socks, rain gear, etc. (Please label items as needed.)
- Water bottle (also labeled).
- Running Shoes - please wear running shoes to all practices and meets. You will not be able to participate if you forget them. (You may want to have an extra pair in your bag, just in case.)
- Wear comfortable clothes for practice that are easy to move in--no jeans.
- You may want to have a towel in the car for muddy shoes or wet clothes.
Practices: Comfortable clothes to run in. Dress for the weather (we practice in the heat and rain) and in layers. Please bring sunscreen and sunglasses--and use them.
Meets: Bottoms--solid black shorts. (Athletes need to purchase their own). The inseam must be at least three inches--preferably six inches or longer--for modesty purposes. Your shorts must be longer than your shirt. If you choose to wear leggings (or running tights), you still must wear shorts with a three inch (preferably six inch) or longer inseam over them.
Tops--You will purchase an HRK Dri-Fit team shirt online after you register for HRK Cross Country. It can be worn alone or over a solid black, red, or white shirt. This shirt is yours to keep; it can also be used for HRK Track and Field in the spring. (If you already purchased a team shirt either for HRK Cross Country last autumn or HRK Track and Field last spring, you can use that same shirt for cross country meets. You do not need to purchase another shirt.)
The HRK Spirit Wear Store will be open online from August 9th-14th for you to purchase a team uniform shirt. (The cost is around $20.) There will be two styles to choose from (depending on the size of the shirt): short sleeved or sleeveless. You will only be able to purchase a team uniform shirt during these dates. Coaches will send out reminder emails when the online store opens and before it closes--but it will be up to each athlete to make sure they have a team uniform shirt.
Please note the Athlete Expectations page on this website, as it pertains to modesty: "Dress modestly. If in doubt, do not wear it. Shorts need to be at least fingertip long or have a 3 inch or longer inseam. Spandex shorts may be worn under looser shorts. Tank tops, and tops or dresses with spaghetti straps, need to have a shirt or jacket worn over them at all times." It can be challenging to dress modestly in a running sport, but all of us are participating in this activity to glorify God. Let's strive to be as modest as we can while doing our best for Him.
